Bhavani Devi, India’s top Olympic fencer, wins national competition in Charlellville, France

Fencer Bhavani Devi, who made history at the Tokyo Olympics by becoming the first Indian to participate in the sport at the Games, won the national competition in Charlellville, France in the women’s individual saber event.

The 28-year-old fencer tweeted much the same thing.

“Won the national competition in Charlellville, France, in individual women’s saber. A big thank you to trainer Christian Bauer, Arnaud Schneider and all the teammates. Congratulations everyone on a great start to the season, ”she tweeted after winning the competition.

At the Tokyo Olympics, she won her round of 64 match 15-3 against Tunisian Nadia Ben Azizi before falling to eventual bronze medalist Manon Brunet of France in the round of 16.

She is currently ranked 50th in the world and is the best Indian fencer.

She is aiming for a good show at the 2022 Asian Games and has started to prepare for the multidisciplinary sports extravagance.
