Bradford City emerge as a potential destination for a five-goal striker

Bradford City is leading the race to sign Torquay United winger Ben Whitfield, according to a report from The72.

Whitfield scored five goals in 27 league appearances for Torquay last season, helping them advance to the National League play-off final.

But after the Gulls missed their promotion to Ligue 2 following a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Hartlepool, it now looks like the 25-year-old could be on the move this summer.

It was recently reported that League Two duo Exeter City and Swindon Town are keen on a deal for the forward.

Now, however, it looks like Whitfield could be on his way to another League Two club.

According to this latest update, it’s Bradford who is now in pole position to sign the winger, who previously spent time at Bantams academy before moving on to senior football.

Are these 20 facts about Bradford’s five most expensive signings right or wrong?

Isaiah Rankin joined Bradford City from Arsenal?

Bradford has already been busy in the transfer market under new manager Derek Adams this summer, with Andy Cook, Abo Eisa, Oscar Threlkeld and Lee Angol all completing permanent transfers at Valley Parade.

The verdict

It might not be a bad signing for Bradford in fairness.

The Bantams have struggled with attacking firepower for much of last season, and it looks like they’re looking to fix that with the signings they’ve already made this summer.

This is something they would continue to do with the addition of Whitfield, who, as someone who can operate as a winger, could both take risks and create them.

Beating Exeter and Swindon to that deal could also be a coup for Bradford, so it looks like a bright sign for the new season at Valley Parade.
