Jose Mourinho asks for time as he is unveiled as Roma manager
Jose Mourinho is set to return to the transfer market in January in a bid to rekindle Roma’s top four prospects, and a number of Premier League players are in his sights.
The Italian club are six points behind the Champions League places in Serie A, but could be even further away without goals from England striker Tammy Abraham.
Abraham was one of two Premier League players Mourinho signed over the summer, along with former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Rui Patricio, and the Portuguese manager could find himself leveraging his expertise during stays at Chelsea , Manchester United and Tottenham.
Mirror Fotball has looked at some of the players linked with a move to Stadio Olimpico, including a man he has already signed.

Ainsley Maitland Niles
Maitland-Niles was linked with a summer departure from Arsenal and struggled to return to the squad under Mikel Arteta after deciding to stay.
Mourinho is said to be keen to bring the midfielder to Rome, adding to an English contingent that already includes Abraham and Chris Smalling.
Discussions have started on a possible four-year deal, sources say, although Roma have yet to agree on an amount with Arsenal, who could consider the Africa Cup of Nations responsibilities of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny when deciding.
Diogo Dalot
Dalot was one of Mourinho’s last signings at Manchester United, joining the club the same summer as Fred, and the Portuguese defender was unable to establish as he might have hoped.
The 22-year-old spent last season in Serie A, gaining competitive experience on loan with AC Milan, and had to wait until December for his first Premier League start of the current campaign .
Dalot was linked with a meeting with Mourinho before being offered a series of games under Ralf Rangnick, and his future may depend on whether or not the interim United boss invests in more defensive options in January.

Charlie wellens
Dalot is not the only United player on Mourinho’s radar, with teenage defender Charlie Wellens also linked with a stint in Italy.
The youngster is yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils, but his performances for the Under-23 squad – both at full-back and in midfield – have drawn the attention of a number of clubs.
Wellens’ father Richie also went through United academy as a player, making just one senior appearance, and recently spent time as manager of Doncaster Rovers.

Mourinho has already raided former club Chelsea for Abraham, and midfielder Loftus-Cheek has been linked with a move that could see him rejoin his former colleague.
Loftus-Cheek received their senior debut from Mourinho in 2014, although the relationship between the two has not always gone smoothly.
With Chelsea welcoming N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic again in recent weeks, Roma could be convinced to step up their pursuit of the England international.

England international Winks is another to have been linked with Roma in Italian media after a difficult season with Tottenham.
The 25-year-old has only played once in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo and looked set for an exit after being mostly used in the Europa Conference League.
However, talks about a decision have calmed down a bit since Antonio Conte arrived in north London, with an impressive performance against Liverpool suggesting he will remain on the Italian manager’s plans.
Granite Xhaka
Xhaka was high on Mourinho’s list this summer, with the Swiss midfielder set to join Roma from Arsenal.
The 29-year-old appears to have ended Roma hopes when he signed a new deal with the Gunners, and has shown his importance to the London club since returning from a knee injury.
However, no later than November, Corriere Dello Sport reported that Mourinho’s side haven’t completely given up on hopes of reviving a move, and it appears the manager remains a fan of the former Borussia man Mönchengladbach.
