welcome to The independentLive coverage of this Premier League clash between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will rebound in this one, just three days after beating AC Milan in a Champions League thriller. The Reds have made a brilliant start to the 2021/22 campaign with ten points in their first four games. Slowly people are starting to talk about them as title contenders after the club pulled out during the summer transfer window.

But this afternoon they will face a Crystal Palace side backed by their convincing 3-0 victory over Tottenham last weekend. The Eagles took full advantage of Spurs’ reduction to 10 men as they claimed their first league victory under coach Patrick Vieira.

New boy Odsonne Edouard made history on his debut against Tottenham when he became the fastest substitute scorer in Premier League history. Can he continue after this superb start this afternoon? It’s a tall order for Palace, but they won here in the not-so-distant past when they clinched a 2-1 victory in April 2017. That said, nine successive losses since then don’t bode well for visitors.

Follow live updates from Anfield as the Reds look to keep pace at the top of the standings in what promises to be an exciting title race – PLUS the early kick-off conclusion at Molineux as Wolves take on Brentford:

Liverpool v Crystal Palace

Liverpool are on an eight-game winning streak in the Premier League against Crystal Palace, scoring 24 goals and conceding just five.

Palace can match their longest top-tier losing streak against any particular opponent, having suffered nine straight losses to Spurs from 2015 to 2019.

The Eagles have lost on each of their last four league visits to Anfield, having already claimed three straight wins there.

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

It’s a good win for Brentford who rebounded well after their first loss of the season last week. They jump over Leicester in the table after another clean sheet.

The reaction will come from Molineux, but we’ll look forward to the 3pm kick-off as Liverpool prepare to host Crystal Palace.

Full-time: Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

90 + 6 minutes: There is the final whistle. Brentford got the job done in the first half, Ivan Toney with a man of the match performance that saw him convert from the penalty spot before preparing Bryan Mbeumo for the second.

Shandon Baptiste had a few mental blocks in the second half which saw him pick up two quick yellow cards and leave his team struggling. Brentford had to defend for 25 minutes with 10 men, but they managed to take all three points.

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

90 + 3 minutes: Ruben Neves takes a wild shot from outside the box and smokes the effort far from the goal. The local supporters start to leave. Maybe the game is just for wolves.

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

90 minutes: out of the bar! Mbeumo is played across the baseline as Brentford attacks on the counter. He goes into the box and shoots with his left foot. The connection is good and the ball slams into the crossbar! That would have fixed it.

Six minutes of extra time to play!

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

87 minutes: huge luck! Traore whipped crosses throughout the game with no one able to receive them. This time, Raul Jimenez appears. David Raya thinks he is coming to get the ball but finds himself stuck in no man’s land. Jimenez jumps the highest, wins the header and then shoots past the back post!

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

84 min: Danger. Podence gets a free kick just in front of Brentford’s penalty area. Trincao and Neves stand on the set piece but it will be Trincao who takes it.

He pushes his effort over the wall but there is not enough time for the ball to dive under the crossbar and the shot goes up high.

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

81 mins: Pontus Jansson is withdrawn after receiving a yellow card. Zanka Jørgensen comes to replace him for the last minutes. Less than 10 for Brentford who uses all the tricks of the trade to take time.

Wolves 0 – 2 Brentford

79 mins: Traore makes his way into the right side of the box before making a cross in Podence and Trincao. Both men run towards the back post but the cross passes over their heads and the attack fails. This is simply not the case for Wolves today.
