Gary Neville has taken aim at Avram Glazer after the Manchester United co-owner traveled to Dubai to discuss cricket with the chairman of the country’s Sports Council.

The Glazers have been deeply unpopular figures at United for several years, with former players and supporters regularly accusing them of putting their financial interests ahead of those of the club.

The American tycoons’ brief involvement in last year’s European Super League fiasco has only intensified calls for them to leave, but following mass protests inside and outside ‘Old Trafford, Joel Glazer has pledged to visit Manchester more frequently to hold annual fan meetings.

Joel and his brother Avram have yet to arrange one of these meetings, which has been a source of frustration for Neville.

And after spotting a photo on social media of Avram meeting Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed, the chairman of the Dubai Sport Council, in a week that saw them withdraw from the Champions League, the club legend has once again struck its owners.

Sheikh Mansoor first tweeted a picture of them sitting around a table together and wrote: “I met Avram Glazer, co-chairman of Manchester United, today and discussed ways to work together to further raise Dubai’s profile as a global sports hub.” We also discussed the launch of the UAE T20 cricket league in January 2023 with the Manchester United cricket team and other teams.

“United are coming out of the Champions League and he’s going to Dubai to discuss cricket”.

Neville’s dig at Avram comes days after he called on Joel to keep his promise to hold meetings with United fans.

Following their Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid, the former Red Devils defender has said on his Sky Sports Podcast: ‘The reality is that something big is missing, and it comes from the top.

“We heard Joel Glazer say a while ago that he was going to engage with the fans. Flights are open Joel, you can fly to Manchester.

‘See here, see us talking to the fans properly. Explain this vision, you have a new CEO in place, but you can’t just leave it to the new CEO. You have to come.

“He told the Super League full-back that he was going to change the way he ran the club and he was going to come and see the fans.

‘He hasn’t finished. Not that I know of anyway, unless he slipped up without me knowing about it, and few people slip into Manchester without me knowing about it! They sent in Tom Brady, which was good on Saturday, but it would be good if they sent themselves.
