Scenarios

Southampton: It’s not just the loss of Ings that threatens to derail Southampton’s season. In defense, Jannik Vestergaard, the hub of Hasenhuttl’s defense, has moved on to Leicester and although he is confident he will be replaced before the transfer window closes, there is so far no new signature through the door.

A contract extension for James Ward Prowse was a welcome boost as Aston Villa sniffed at the England international, but ahead of what promises to be a tough game, Southampton look like a team with a bit of experience.

Manchester United : After being exposed outside Old Trafford last weekend, Raphael Varane could feature to some extent on the South Coast alongside Edinson Cavani, who returned to training later than many of his teammates after the club gave him gave an extended summer break to spend time with his family. It’s also possible that Jadon Sancho will start after a brief appearance in last week’s 5-1 win over Leeds United.

“They worked well,” Soskjaer said of Sancho and Varane. “They’ve had a few minutes. We’ve had a great week ourselves. We’ll see who takes the flight to Southampton on Saturday.”

Prediction

Manchester United reached a rich form of attacking last weekend, expect this to continue against a Southampton side who will do well to keep them from climbing the scoring. TO TAKE: Southampton 1 Manchester United 3
