Women’s golf No. 15 breaks tournament scoring records and leads ‘Mo’ Morial after day one

BRIAN, TX –Texas’ No. 15 women’s golf team shot 6-under and 8-under rounds and hold a three-shot lead after opening day of the “Mo” Morial Invitational Tuesday at the Traditions Club.

Sophie Guo leads the individual standings after breaking the 36-hole tournament scoring record with rounds of 68-67 (135) and 9 under for the tournament.

The Longhorns also set a new 36-hole team scoring record for the tournament with an under-14 562. The previous 36-hole team record was 569, set in 2014 by Auburn.

Texas leads Texas A&M by three strokes and Florida by seven strokes heading into the final round of play tomorrow.


• Senior Sophie Guo birdied his last two holes of the day to complete a 5-under 67 for the second round of the day. Guo has a one-stroke lead going into the final round.

• Second year Bohyun Park shot rounds 71-71 to finish 2 under for the day and is in ninth place in the tournament.

• Youth Bentley Cotton shot rounds 72-71 for a 1 under and is tied for 16e in the tournament. Botton had four birdies on his final lap.

• First-year student Cindy Hsu continued his strong game. Guo played consistently with 15 pars in his second round and is tied for the tournament.

• First-year student Emily Odwin made his college debut with a score of 2 on 36 holes and is tied for 22n/a in the tournament.

The “Mo” Morial Invitational will end tomorrow with the last 18 holes.
